FESTIVAL Vizura aperta 2019
NAPUŠTANJE/ABANDONMENT 15.– 20. 08. 2019. Janjina
Interpretacija iste pjesme četrdeset osam godina kasnije uključuje novo čitanje 'lakoglazbenog' teksta ove skladbe i pripisuje značenja vezana uz motive kobnih odlazaka zabilježenih u autoričinom Arhivu snova. "Vremenske akcije 2000.-2019". U suradnji s kustoskim radnim kolektivom GROMA u fokusu su radovi posvećeni svijesti o prostoru i unaprjeđenju korištenja javnih prostora kroz izbor video radova dubrovačkih umjetnica/ka Ivane Pegan Baće, Ane Požar Piplica, Ivone Vlašić, Paska Burđuleza i Luka Piplice GROMA progovara o napuštenosti, neprisutnosti, kolebanju, udaljenosti među ljudima, udaljenosti od prirode i prostora u kojem živimo. U suradnji s kustosicom Lotte Møller u Janjini nastavlja se suradnja s dansko-njemačkom kulturnom scenom u radovima danskih umjetnica Ragnhild May and Vinyl-Terror & -Horror (Camilla Sørensen and Greta Christensen) čiji radovi negiraju granice između vizualne umjetnosti i zvuka u formi instalacija i performancea u javnom prostoru.
Abandonment – Acceptance, August 15 – 26, 2019
The themes of Acceptance and Abandonment derive from the spatial context of the communities in which the festival is taking place. However, the themes are also very current and topical at the current moment and, in a wider sense, concern Mediterranean social and geopolitical topics. These are broad, emotional and everyday themes. Janjina is a place in which abandonment is visible in the history of departures. Abandonment and desertion are testified to by the many houses that have been taken over by vegetation, places in which the population is reduced, the disappearance of shops and of cultural establishments that people took a pride in. The former cultural premises in Janjina, the Cinema, is today the Cooperative House. This year at the initiatives of a local inhabitant, Vatren Pekić, a collective exhibition of inhabitants of Pelješac and of other people interested in taking part will be opened. This campaign has brought together some seventy authors and shows the need for the use of the building for cultural purposes, the need of people for cultural and artistic activities. In the year in which we bring to an end our programme in Janjina, we are delighted with the generating energy of the author of the exhibition “Never better” Vatren Pekić, and of all who responded or joined in themselves. And to that extent departure is the easier.
The idea of abandonment a place with admiration of or love it is problematised by the doubly first-prize-winning participant in Vizura Aperta, the architect and artist Ivan Haiman. The artist Kata Mijatović combines autobiographical elements related to her performance of the Arsen Dedić song “Where is this ship sailing” of 1971. Interpretation of the song after forty eight years includes a new reading of the light-music text of the composition and ascribes to it meanings related to the motifs of fatal departures recorded in the author’s Dream Archive. “Temporal Actions 2000-2019” by Zoran Pavelić takes up from the work of Slaven Tolj “I’ll be back in 5 minutes” (in which it is clear he will not) Slaven Tolj and shifts messages about leaving into a different medium and language, changing and continuing in the actions that are still to come. In association with the curatorial working collective GROMA the focus is on works dedicated to awareness of space and advancement of the use of public spaces through a selection of video works from several Dubrovnik artists Ivana Pegan Baće, Ana Požar Piplica, Ivona Vlasić, Pasko Burđulez and Luko Piplice. GROMA speaks out about desertion, hesitation, distance among people, distance from nature and the space in which we live. The theme of abandoning the modernistic ideals in architecture in their personal references to the work of an architect who built in the Dubrovnik area will be presented by the architect Ljiljana Blagojević: The Architecture of Nikola Dobrović: abandoned, unsustainable, invaluable and Krunoslav Ivanišin: Dobrović in Dubrovnik. The umpteenth time: Dobrović in Dubrovnik. In association with the curator Lotte Møller, in Janjina cooperation continues with the Danish and Germany cultural scene in the works of the Danish artists Ragnhild May and Vinyl-Terror & -Horror (Camilla Sørensen and Greta Christensen) whose works deny the border between visual art and sound in the form of installations and performances in public space.
Like a ship after setting sail we wish for acceptance, throw out a rope and hope that someone is going to take hold of the other end. Dobre Dobričević on Lastovo will. We want to believe that different and other people on the island will be the same.
The idea of departure and arrival is to be found in the graphic installations of Boris Greiner, and theme of tying up – mooring and casting off is dealt with by Alem Korkut. The work of Kata Mijatović also contains the idea of marine departures with no return. And still under the maxim of those who depart “Sailing is necessary, living is not / Nagivare necesse est, vivere non est necesse” there is awareness of the ever more present reality of the many uncertain journeys that do not end with arrival or acceptance, as visible in the work of Siniša Labrović “Farewell to the guest who did not come” as well as in the work of Pasko Burđulez “The police think we are not people, they think we are animals” which takes up the issue of the dehumanisation of people who are other and different by politics and the media.
In the works of this year we pay honour to those who are leaving us in search of a better place, those who vanish on the road, and those who have made the break, moved off and found a new place for themselves.
In the desire that the lighter notes of this hot summer find a place on a sufficiently distant island that we have not yet been to, we call upon everyone under the influence of the good currents, welcome greetings, sun and sea, to celebrate acceptance together through the themes of inter-personal relations, from the everyday and the amorous to the seasonal (holidaymaking) for after all… one has to live!
